FAQ
Is the Ho Chi Minh Trail Laos tour suitable for beginner riders?
This is one of our more demanding routes — a mix of sealed road and rutted, hard-packed dirt tracks through remote sections of Laos and central Vietnam, and we’d recommend it for riders with prior off-road or long-distance experience rather than first-timers. If you’re newer to riding, our Ha Giang or Northwest Vietnam tours are a gentler introduction before tackling a cross-border route like this one.
Do I need a visa to cross into Laos?
Yes, and it’s already taken care of — your Laos visa, Laos tour guide, and Laos police escort are all included in the tour price, along with all permits, tolls, and entrance fees along the route.
What’s the minimum group size for this tour?
This particular route runs for groups of 8 riders or more, which is larger than our typical 2-to-15-rider tours. If you’re traveling solo or in a smaller group, get in touch and we can either slot you into an upcoming departure with other riders or discuss a private custom itinerary along a similar route.
What bikes are used on this route?
We run this tour on the Honda CRF250L and Honda XR150, both well suited to the mixed on- and off-road conditions between Hanoi and Hoi An. A support mechanic follows the group as sweeper, and a Toyota Hilux 4×4 support vehicle travels with you for the full 2,800km.
Is this the actual historic Ho Chi Minh Trail?
The route follows the trail through Laos toward the Plain of Jars before crossing back into Vietnam near the old DMZ, passing through towns and villages still shaped by the war — including stops where you’ll see houses built using old bomb casings as structural supports. It’s as close as a guided motorbike tour gets to riding the original supply route.
What’s included, and what isn’t?
All-inclusive means your bike, fuel, English-speaking guide, meals, accommodation (a mix of homestays and hotels, twin share), riding gear, and the support vehicle and Laos logistics described above. Not included: personal expenses, alcohol, and personal health/travel insurance, which you’ll need to arrange yourself before departure.
Can the tour be extended beyond 12 days?
Yes — we also run a 13-day version of this route with extra time exploring sites along the trail before finishing in Hoi An. Contact us directly for that itinerary and pricing, since it’s arranged as a custom variation rather than a fixed package.
How much is the deposit, and when is the balance due?
A deposit of US$500 per person secures your spot, with the remaining balance due in full before the tour departs.

What an insight into the life of Vietnam’s and Laos culture. Plenty of interesting places we went to and past through. Learnt a great deal about the Vietnam war. All accommodation was A/C thank god which made us feel rested ready for the following day to look forward to. The river crossings and bridges were a highlight including the well earned swim half way through the trails on some days. Great pace and bikes were fine. Was challenging at times and was nice change to be in the mountains with mist and drizzle on the last day. You won’t go hungry or thirsty. Had good pace with leader and sweeper very competent.Posted on Google chris carrollTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I would recommend We Ride Vietnam to anyone. HeikePosted on Google al jTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have just returned from a 8 day 7 night Ha Giang loop trip with We Ride Vietnam. Hai and his team did a fantastic job, well organised and very professionally run, we had Son as a guide, Long as our mechanic/guide along with camera man and support vehicle driver. All accommodation and meals were covered for the entire trip along with hotel to bike transfers, the only thing we had to pay for was alcoholic drinks at the end of the day. Before departure each morning our mechanic would check over every bike and have them lined up ready to go. We had 2 different skill levels of riders in our group and both were well and truly catered for, splitting the group up on several occasions to keep all interested. If riding a bike around Vietnam is on your to do list give Hai at We Ride Vietnam a call, your won't regret it ever! Hai and the team are amazing, did the 8 days tour in North Vietnam and honestly the best experience ever!
