Tour Itinerary: 5 Days 4 Nights

Ban Gioc – Ha Giang Motorbike Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi – Ba Be National Park

Our 5-day Ban Gioc Ha Giang motorbike tour begins in Hanoi as we leave the city behind and head north into the Vietnamese countryside.

The landscape gradually changes from busy lowland towns to rice fields, river valleys and increasingly mountainous terrain as we make our way toward Ba Be National Park in Bac Kan Province.

As we get farther from Hanoi, traffic becomes lighter and the roads become increasingly enjoyable. We use a combination of provincial roads and smaller countryside routes whenever conditions allow, giving you your first taste of riding rural Northern Vietnam.

By late afternoon we reach the spectacular Ba Be region, surrounded by jungle-covered limestone mountains.

Tonight we stay near Ba Be Lake, enjoying a local dinner and the relaxed atmosphere of one of Northern Vietnam’s most beautiful national parks.

Overnight: Ba Be

Day 2: Ba Be – Ban Gioc Waterfall

After breakfast we leave Ba Be and ride northeast toward Cao Bang Province and the Vietnam–China border.

This is a fantastic day of motorcycle riding through a region of limestone mountains, valleys, rivers and traditional villages. The roads become increasingly remote as we travel deeper into Northeast Vietnam.

Our destination is magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfall, located directly on the Vietnam–China border.

Fed by the Quay Son River and surrounded by dramatic karst mountains and rice fields, Ban Gioc is one of Vietnam’s most impressive natural attractions and an extraordinary destination to reach by motorcycle.

We have time to explore the waterfall, enjoy the surrounding scenery and photograph one of the most recognizable landscapes in Northern Vietnam.

After a full day on the road, we settle into our accommodation near Ban Gioc for dinner and a well-earned rest.

Overnight: Ban Gioc

Day 3: Ban Gioc – Cao Bang – Bao Lac

We leave Ban Gioc after breakfast and begin our journey west toward the mountains separating Cao Bang and Ha Giang.

Rather than rushing directly toward the famous Ha Giang Loop, today is about experiencing the quieter side of Northeast Vietnam.

We ride through remote valleys, limestone mountains and small communities where tourism remains limited. Depending on road and weather conditions, our guides can incorporate smaller mountain roads and local routes to make the day’s ride even more interesting.

Our destination is Bao Lac, a small mountain town surrounded by some of the wildest terrain in Cao Bang Province.

This is an important transition point in the adventure. Ban Gioc and the eastern borderlands are now behind us, while the enormous mountains of Ha Giang lie directly ahead.

Overnight: Bao Lac

Day 4: Bao Lac – Meo Vac – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Dong Van

Today is one of the great motorcycle riding days in Vietnam.

Leaving Bao Lac, we climb into increasingly dramatic mountain country as we approach Meo Vac and the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark.

The landscape becomes bigger with every kilometre — deep valleys, towering limestone peaks, narrow mountain roads and isolated Hmong villages scattered across the slopes.

From Meo Vac we tackle the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the most spectacular roads in Vietnam and a highlight of any Ha Giang motorcycle tour.

The road clings to the mountains high above the Nho Que River, providing extraordinary views across Tu San Canyon and the surrounding limestone peaks.

There will be plenty of opportunities to stop for photographs and simply take in the scale of the landscape.

We continue across the plateau to Dong Van, the historic mountain town at the heart of the Ha Giang highlands.

After checking into our accommodation, the evening is free to explore Dong Van’s old quarter before dinner.

Overnight: Dong Van

Day 5: Dong Van – Ha Giang – Hanoi

Our final riding day takes us from Dong Van south toward Ha Giang City, but the adventure is far from finished.

Leaving the Dong Van plateau, we continue through some of Ha Giang’s signature mountain scenery, following twisting roads through high passes, valleys and ethnic minority villages.

Depending on timing and road conditions, there are opportunities for stops at viewpoints and cultural sites along the route.

The mountains gradually give way to wider valleys as we approach Ha Giang City, bringing our Ban Gioc – Ha Giang motorcycle adventure to an end.

After arriving in Ha Giang, we return the motorcycles and have time to change and prepare for the journey back to Hanoi.

You then board a comfortable limousine van or bus from Ha Giang to Hanoi, allowing you to relax after five incredible days of riding.
